Club League race 4 - time trial (handicapped)

Round 4 of the 2013 league was another 16km individual time trial, on the old N6 Galway road out of Kinnegad.

The race was run using a handicap system, whereby the rider that improves the most over their previous time wins.

Brad Brennan put in a big performance to knock a massive 5m02s off his previous time to take the honours for the night and landing the maximum 25 points.

Second, third and fourth places went to riders who all managed to smash their previous best time by more than 3-mins!!!

So, after the points are awarded for Round-4, we have a new league leader:  Shane Walsh now holds the Yellow Jersey going into round 5 - well done Shane!!!

Just behind Shane is Jacob Baldwin, followed in 3rd by Mervyn Heffernan and Luke McVeigh into fourth spot.  Interestingly, Luke is the only rider in the top 5 to have marshalled, and next time round the 'best 4' rule kicks in, so the league is very much still wide open!!

Here are the results for the race - and below this you will also find the times listed by fastest rider home (just in case you are curious!)....

The fourth round of the 2013 Club League is a 16k time trial, taking place on TUESDAY 26th June.

Riders will set off at 1 minute intervals on a fast route from Kinnegad to Milltownpass on the old Dublin to Galway Road returning on the same route to finish at Kinnegad.

The riders will set off in reverse order of the league table, with the Yellow Jersey off last.

Everyone has a target of beating their previous times by as much as possible to try for a win, as the race will use a handicap system.

If you didn't ride the first Time Trial, and therefore have no time recorded for 2013, we will take your best time to date.

Below are your personal 'reference times' which you have to beat, in case you're curious :)

handicap times

The handicap system is the same as used by the ICVA - you are racing against your previous recorded time (e.g in Round-1 of the league), and whoever beats their own time by the biggest margin is the winner.

Tips for warming up correctly can be found here.
Warming up correctly is very important, not only to get the best performance out of yourself, but also to avoid possible injury by trying to ride the race from a 'fresh', rested state (see here for some of the science behind it all).
