Club League race 2 - CP, Enfield Circuit
The 2nd round of the Club League was held on our new circuit,
starting and finishing from the village of Rathcore, near
Enfield.
The weather threatened to spoil the night, with very heavy
downpours about an hour before the start, but lucky for
everyone, it passed in time, and we only had to put up with the
Irish 'Summer' temperatures, and didn't have to battle through
the rain!!
There was a great turnout for the race - 33 in total, and these
were split into 5 groups on the night. We had a great
turnout from our friends in Team 905, Rochfortbridge, Lakeside
Wheelers and Tri-and-Run.
The limit groups set off first, and battled hard to try and keep
their advantage to the finish. Most of the groups came
together on the final lap, with some of the Limit Group riders
only getting caught in the last couple of kilometers - so
close!!
The first 6 places went to riders from Groups 2 and 3, with the
honour of
first place going to Michael Kane,
followed in by Shane Walsh, with 3rd place going then to Colm
Yeats.
Behind the first 6 riders home, the Semi-Scratch group, led in
the road by the power-house that is Marie Boland were just
catching some of the riders from Group-1 on the final run-in to
the finish, and they had to sprint for 7th Place. Paddy
Ronan put in a super-fast attack with about 1.5km to go, and
only just lost out on the line to Andy Flood.
The Scratch-Group came in then shortly after the riders from
Group-1 who almost stayed away to the end, sprinting for 20th
place - the very fast sprint was taken by the Yellow Jersey of
league-leader, Jacob Baldwin, followed in by Aiden Daly from
Mullingar.
The scratch group, although working very hard throughout the
race were unable to close the gap to the front groups, but they
weren't far off!! 38.5km/h average speed, which was good
considering half the group had been running Marathons and
Triathlons over the weekend!!
So, with the great performance in the first-round Time Trial,
and a 13th Place in this round, the
new Yellow Jersey holder
for the league is Marie Boland - well done Marie!!
Well deserved, not least after the big effort put in with the
Semi-Scratch group!
We would like to thank everyone who turned out to Marshal on the
night, as without the marshals, we cannot run the races!
Also, special thanks to Mary Burke and Jonathan Ryan, as they
were the first Team Leads in our new format of organising the
sign-on, timings, marshals, and finish line - super job, we
think you will all agree!!!
Thanks also to the staff at Boggins Pub in Rathcore for their
great hospitality making everyone feel so welcome, and for the
lovely tea and sandwiches after the event. The Pub has
probably never seen so much Lycra!!! :)
Below are the results from the night, and there are some photos
on the Club's Facebook Group, courtesy of the great Michelle
Kavanagh - great job by Michelle!!
