Club League race 5 - CP, Kinnegad Circuit
The fifth round of the Club League took place on Tuesday 17th
July.
Yellow Jersey Jacob Baldwin and the rest of the scratch group
had their work cut out for them in this race, on a fast
circuit, with no hills to slow other groups down and a big
tailwind from Kinnegad each lap - they had to battle very hard
to pull back the gap on the semi-scratch and limit groups,
with 22mins between the first off and the scratch group.
A great effort from new member and taximan Michael Mangan
meant he drove clear with 1km to go and stayed clear to take
the honours, flying across the finish line to take first
place.
Closely followed then by the father-son duo of Conor (former
u14 community games champion) and Brendan Leech to take 2nd
and 3rd.
The main peloton were a mere 45 seconds behind, and consisted
of a mix of several groups which had come together on the
circuit. Scratch group were bearing down fast on this
peloton, and were seconds from catching them approaching the
finishline - in fact a massive burst of speed by Ger Dunne saw
him jump clear of scratch, then catch and pass everyone in the
peloton to take 4th place on the night, with the next dozen or
so places divided up between the peloton and scratch
riders. First lady rider home was Sonja O'Mahony who
performed very strongly in the group.
Overall, the league table has changed due to the 'best 4
results' rule kicking in now after 5 rounds.
Andy Flood takes over the Yellow Jersey position, and will
wear the leaders Jersey for the next round. It is very
close at the top now with only a handful of points separating
the first 5 positions.
Ger Dunne moves up now to 2nd place, just one point behind
Andy, and Mervyn Heffernan in 3rd place, one point behind Ger
- it's all hotting up now with only two more races remaining,
and some riders still to take a race out for Marshaling
duties!!
Here is the league table
after Round 5.
Special thanks to everyone who marshaled and helped out with
Lead Cars - your help is very much appreciated.
Here are some photos from the night, courtesy of Michelle
Kavanagh (great job Michelle, well done again!!!)
Here are the results for the race - please also check the Rota for Marshaling
because we only have 2 races left and a few people
have not yet marshaled, and therefore risk having
points deducted at the end of the league (also, we don't want
a situation where we have 50 marshals on the last night, and
no one in the race!!!).
The circuit was 3 laps of the mainly flat Kinnegad circuit that we have used last year. Each lap is 14km long, and the finish line was be just before Clonard Village on the last lap. Total distance for the race is 41km (approx).
