Club League race 3 - CP, Ballyboggin Circuit:
Hilltop Finish
Round 3 of the 2012 Club League took place on Tuesday 12th June.
The weather was really looking quite bad, with rain hanging
around, literally all day long. Lucky enough it eased off
for us and we all managed to get round safely.
Each group off was kept to a small number of riders, and
everyone worked well and did their bit at the front. The
very strong scratch group came flying by Semi-Scratch, mid-way
round the 2nd lap, and the high pace kept up for the rest of the
race, with the combined group working very well together to
bring back the lead groups.
On the last lap, a strong attack by course-designer Alan Maye on
the tough stretch of road over the motorway, split the group up
initially, but eventually most riders regrouped.
The pace was kept high for the rest of the lap, thanks in no
small part by strong performances by Jacob, and
[Yellow-Jersey-wearing] Gavin.
The leaders on the road were eventually swept up on the final
run in towards the finish, so a large group were together for
the final few KM's.
At the base of the hill, Alan launched a stinging attack for the
line - having already shown his determination for a win by his
earlier attack, he was closely marked by Andy Flood, but the gap
couldn't be closed, and Alan showed great strength to lead all
the way up the hill to finish first, followed by Andy in 2nd.
Jacob and Gavin came in just behind, taking 3rd and 4th place
respectively, followed then by Paddy Ronan to take 5th place,
and then finishing up the prizes was Marvyn Heffernan with 6th
Place.
Jacob now takes over the Yellow Jersey for league lead, with
Gavin just one point behind.
Here are all the results for Race 3, and the league table is updated on the
main page:
Here are some photos from the Race - once again, many thanks to
the incredibly talented Michelle Kavanagh for the superb
