Enfield Grand Prix 2012: Race Report

Big thank you to everyone who turned out to support the race!

With the weather remaining dry for the whole race, a great evening's racing in the Enfield Grand Prix, on a fast 6.4km circuit.
The A4's were let away first, with a 2.5min handicap over the A3's, who in turn had 2.5mins over the A2's and A1's.

Clonard Road Club's own rider Ger Dunne was in attacking form, and gave the local crowd something to cheer on as he broke away with a Lucan rider and led for the first half of the race.

With two laps to go, all of the groups came together, and with aggressive attacking on the hill up to the main road with a lap to go by local rider Aaron Buggle trying to break away the pace really kicked up a notch.

The last lap was the fastest of the whole night, which led to a very high speed bunch sprint finish, eventually won by Lucan Stagg Cycles rider John Priest, showing his sprinting class, narrowly beating his team mate Louis Murtagh on the line by a very close margin.

Third was inseparable, and led to a dead heat decision by the race officials, awarded jointly to Alan Burke (Murphy Surveryers) and Patrick O'Brien (Orwell).

Fifth place went to Shane Baker of Usher IRC, and 6th to Enda Connelly (Garda Richies).
7th to Gary Gorman of Stamullen, and 8th to Andrew Meehan of DID Dunboyne.
First of the 2nd Cat Riders was Matt Kelly of Stamullen.
3rd Cat Prize for Damien O'Brien of Lakeside.
4th Cat prize went to Derek Stenson of Lucan.
Ger Dunne took the prize for first Club Rider from Clonard RC.

Thanks to the Gardai and Civil Defence, and all the Club's members for their help on the night.
